Canadian Segway Buyers Beware

I really hate having to do this but I need to. I live in Southern Ontario and anyone considering buying a Segway Product needs to hear what I've gone through. Ten minutes from my home there WAS a Segway dealer. I happen to own a Segway Snarler 570 AT6 LX. It's a 2022 with currently very few kilometres on it. The dealer that was 10 minutes away now refuses to Service or deal with Segway in any way shape or form. They told me that they lost over 100 Grand when Segway Canada went bust only a year or so ago. I can't confirm or deny any of that, but I do know, there is also a Honda Dealer in the immediate area that I live. I went to both dealerships to see if they would take my Snarler on trade and they both want nothing to do with it saying getting parts would be a problem because they won't want to deal with Segway again. I'm theoretically stuck with a machine that no one wants.

In any event, I learned a company called Magellan now supports Segway Powersports for any warranty claims or issues in Canada. That wasn't easy for me to find out. So, I found a way to reach out and contact them about my atv. I spoke with two different individuals at Magellan, a Warranty Administrator named Melika and the National Sales and Business Development Director at Segway Powersports in Canada named Candice who happens to somehow be a "Superior" to the Warranty Administrator at Magellan. Not sure how they are connected. What a difficult nightmare that ended up being.

It's rather a simple matter that became insane. My ATV seemed to be chugging during take off and it only has 12 hours on it. The first and simple solution is to replace the drive belt. The Warranty Administrator was difficult at best. After explaining that I am a licensed auto mechanic therefore capable of working on an atv of which I've previously owned several, I convinced her to send me a new belt as my machine is still under warranty as I write this message. She at first insisted that I had to take it to a dealer. I explained my dealer that was 10 minutes away is no longer and wasn't interested in touching it. The nearest dealer is now over 3 hours away, just one way and I'd be saving the company money if I installed it myself. Upon agreeing to send the belt, suddenly the Warranty Administrator wanted me to send multiple pictures including of the belt taken off the atv and to complete a form requesting all kinds of information that I simply can't answer. I explained that I was going to continue to use the atv that I didn't want it sitting apart while I wait for a belt so she'd have to wait for a picture of the belt that comes off it.. She wouldn't agree so I ended up involving the National Sales and Business Development Director who agreed to just send me the belt. The belt arrived about a week later and after taking my atv apart to replace it, clearly they had sent the wrong belt. There is a GEN1 or CX clutch that takes one belt or a CVTECH clutch that takes a different belt. The belt they sent me is a full 6 inches longer than what came off the atv. I learned it is a belt for a Segway Villian or Fugleman.

I contacted both individuals and rightfully so, I wasn't happy. I simply wanted them to acknowledge they sent the wrong belt and to send me the proper one and I'd return the other one. They wouldn't return my text messages, answer my calls or return a call after having left a multiple messages. I made it clear they made a mistake, send the right belt and I'll return the other one and we'll move on but NOPE, that was no good. I even left a message for the CEO of Magellan that I found online and of course, he didn't bother to return my call either. They didn't like my tone so they insisted I need to load the ATV up, drive 3 hours, leave it a dealer to have the belt changed, drive 3 hours home and then drive back up another 3 hours when its ready, load it back up and drive back another 3 hours, all that for a belt that retails for $105 at L1fe Outdoors which is the closest Segway Dealer 3 hours away.

I made it clear, I wasn't taking it in for a belt. I wouldn't lose 12 hours of my time, that's just driving, not waiting around, plus gas money and wear and tear on my vehicle for a $105 belt when they had a dealer 10 minutes from my home that is no longer affecting everyone in this area. I told them to keep their belt, I'll order my own. I have a Villian belt if someone needs one.

If you live in Canada, more specifically in Southern Ontario, you may want to think twice about my experience before you decide to buy a Segway and have to deal with Magellan. I've had the ATV on kijiji now for a while and there is zero interest in it at what will result in me losing a lot of money.

I got screwed, be smarter than I was and ask if yourself if owning a Segway makes sense to you. Me, I won't make that mistake again.

Hey Riveter,
Have you sold your Segway yet?
I am waiting for delivery of my 2023 Fugleman.
I too am a mechanic (retired). I anticipate problems and poor service from Segway, however, since I can fix almost anything myself, I could not turn down the brand new 1000 cc, UTV for only $12,500 plus hst, and zero added fees.
Even if I have to put a Briggs and Stratton engine in it, it is still a hell of a deal.
Personally, I wouldn't put that much effort in to a drive belt, but that's me.

Any updates on your machine?

I wouldn't give Segway another dollar as long as I live. Mechanic or not, you'll end up with a machine you can't give away should you ever decide to trade it. Not one dealer in my area within a 5 hour radius will even take mine on trade. No one wants it and the general school of thought is that you can't get parts in Ontario and Segway screwed all the dealers and now, us users get F&@Xed.

I'm not wrong. I've got nothing to gain by being honest. I've got screwed, plain and simple and I even put the ATV on Kijiji and Autotrader and I guess even others are smart enough that I've had zero interest in at a really low price. Paid 13k and happy to get 7k now and forget getting lowballed by dealers, they won't even take it.

BTW, I have written Segway Canada several times.. Candice and Melika in particular from Magellan which is supposedly the parts people who took over for Ontario after everyone got screwed and they blocked me an ignore me. Thats how they do business now. I want everyone to call her cell at 416-684-1857 to voice their concerns.

There is a Segway dealer in Ajax Ontario. I know it’s a pain in the ass because Segway did sell out. I have a 22 Segway Snarr 570 that I’m having a shit load of issues with with 73 km on it anyway I have to take it to New Brunswick to be under warranty. That’s five hours away from me. I live in Nova Scotia. really nice looking machine just not much quality behind it but it’s just like anything you can get a lemon in any model. I know there’s lots of people chirping about being a Chinese ATV but most ATVs today are made in China including some Hondas, I’m just hoping to get mine fixed.

I’ll start by saying I was deeply affiliated with Segway in Canada from the very beginning, until 2023 when it all fell apart for the original owners. I even assembled the first Snarlers in Canada, and was the first to drive the Villian in N. America. So yea, I was around as an ambassador from the very start!

Unfortunately, Segway Powersports has lost virtually all respect in Canada. It was poorly run from the get go, and the new management has kept some of the poorest employees that were there originally. So I fully understand the frustration. They’ve got a long way to go to get any sort of dealer support setup, aside from L1fe Outdoors, who are truly fantastic people!

The Segway machines are pretty decent. Quality is good. Unfortunately resale value is terrible, and support is extremely limited. You’re going to want to live near L1fe Outdoors if you want any kind of knowledgeable service.
I hope they get it together. The more choice in the market, the better!

I bought a villian here in NovaScotia last june. 21 hrs and motor shot. Dealer I bought from submitted a warranty claim last year, but now this dealership OCR is no longer a Segway dealer. After searching I too found out about Magellin and got a hold of Mellika. After some back and forth I had to take my machine to Moncton to the closest dealer around. Had to leave the machine there on March 18th 2025, they said they had another villian sitting there since last October waiting for warranty approved engine. Needless to say, I stayed in contact with both Mellika and the dealership to keep this moving. Finally aftet about 5 weeks she informed me that the warranty claim was approved and the engine was shipping out next week…that was well over 6 weeks ago. Now she does not reply to emails or voice messages… been making payments for over a year, 21 hrs of usage and still waiting and trying to get info. Dealer is beyond frustrated with Segway as well. Apparently a company in Ontario, I believe lifeoutdoors bought all Segway parts when Segway went belly up? I could order an engine from them for $5k so my question is WTF! What is going on? How can I resolve this or who to contact. Sorry for the long post but I am beyond frustrated
