I really hate having to do this but I need to. I live in Southern Ontario and anyone considering buying a Segway Product needs to hear what I've gone through. Ten minutes from my home there WAS a Segway dealer. I happen to own a Segway Snarler 570 AT6 LX. It's a 2022 with currently very few kilometres on it. The dealer that was 10 minutes away now refuses to Service or deal with Segway in any way shape or form. They told me that they lost over 100 Grand when Segway Canada went bust only a year or so ago. I can't confirm or deny any of that, but I do know, there is also a Honda Dealer in the immediate area that I live. I went to both dealerships to see if they would take my Snarler on trade and they both want nothing to do with it saying getting parts would be a problem because they won't want to deal with Segway again. I'm theoretically stuck with a machine that no one wants.
In any event, I learned a company called Magellan now supports Segway Powersports for any warranty claims or issues in Canada. That wasn't easy for me to find out. So, I found a way to reach out and contact them about my atv. I spoke with two different individuals at Magellan, a Warranty Administrator named Melika and the National Sales and Business Development Director at Segway Powersports in Canada named Candice who happens to somehow be a "Superior" to the Warranty Administrator at Magellan. Not sure how they are connected. What a difficult nightmare that ended up being.
It's rather a simple matter that became insane. My ATV seemed to be chugging during take off and it only has 12 hours on it. The first and simple solution is to replace the drive belt. The Warranty Administrator was difficult at best. After explaining that I am a licensed auto mechanic therefore capable of working on an atv of which I've previously owned several, I convinced her to send me a new belt as my machine is still under warranty as I write this message. She at first insisted that I had to take it to a dealer. I explained my dealer that was 10 minutes away is no longer and wasn't interested in touching it. The nearest dealer is now over 3 hours away, just one way and I'd be saving the company money if I installed it myself. Upon agreeing to send the belt, suddenly the Warranty Administrator wanted me to send multiple pictures including of the belt taken off the atv and to complete a form requesting all kinds of information that I simply can't answer. I explained that I was going to continue to use the atv that I didn't want it sitting apart while I wait for a belt so she'd have to wait for a picture of the belt that comes off it.. She wouldn't agree so I ended up involving the National Sales and Business Development Director who agreed to just send me the belt. The belt arrived about a week later and after taking my atv apart to replace it, clearly they had sent the wrong belt. There is a GEN1 or CX clutch that takes one belt or a CVTECH clutch that takes a different belt. The belt they sent me is a full 6 inches longer than what came off the atv. I learned it is a belt for a Segway Villian or Fugleman.
I contacted both individuals and rightfully so, I wasn't happy. I simply wanted them to acknowledge they sent the wrong belt and to send me the proper one and I'd return the other one. They wouldn't return my text messages, answer my calls or return a call after having left a multiple messages. I made it clear they made a mistake, send the right belt and I'll return the other one and we'll move on but NOPE, that was no good. I even left a message for the CEO of Magellan that I found online and of course, he didn't bother to return my call either. They didn't like my tone so they insisted I need to load the ATV up, drive 3 hours, leave it a dealer to have the belt changed, drive 3 hours home and then drive back up another 3 hours when its ready, load it back up and drive back another 3 hours, all that for a belt that retails for $105 at L1fe Outdoors which is the closest Segway Dealer 3 hours away.
I made it clear, I wasn't taking it in for a belt. I wouldn't lose 12 hours of my time, that's just driving, not waiting around, plus gas money and wear and tear on my vehicle for a $105 belt when they had a dealer 10 minutes from my home that is no longer affecting everyone in this area. I told them to keep their belt, I'll order my own. I have a Villian belt if someone needs one.
If you live in Canada, more specifically in Southern Ontario, you may want to think twice about my experience before you decide to buy a Segway and have to deal with Magellan. I've had the ATV on kijiji now for a while and there is zero interest in it at what will result in me losing a lot of money.
I got screwed, be smarter than I was and ask if yourself if owning a Segway makes sense to you. Me, I won't make that mistake again.
